As a web site strategist

I've been a web designer since 1992 and a business
development analyst, copywriter, coach and strategist for the better part of
the past 20 years, and have worked with businesses of all sizes, helping them
to develop and execute a dynamic and effective web presence. In my experience
over the years, I began to notice a very significant difference between how
major corporations approach creating a web presence, and how small businesses
try to do it.
Big corporations have big budgets and entire teams of
people contributing to the company web site, and therefore they usually create
very effective web sites that can compel customers to buy; but small to
mid-sized businesses don't have the internal resources, money or know-how to
create a web site on the same scale -- and they are often intimidated by
technology and what they feel they don't know.

Background

- Corporate I.T. career spanning 1985-1998,
supporting the insurance, telecommunications, and chemical/pharmaceutical
manufacturing industries.
- Graduate of the Chubb Institute for Computer
Technology with diploma in Business Computer Programming.
- Have worked on large-scale computer applications
and corporate intranet sites, primarily responsible for business systems
analysis of the customer's requirements, then translating those into functional
project specifications.
- Managed projects from top to bottom, including
developing and writing systems and technical documentation, training programs
and manuals for end user training, and managing teams of employees and external
consultants.
- Was the first full-time web site developer for a
major chem/pharma corporation -- a position created for me in 1992 when I began
my web design career.
- Since leaving the corporate world in 1998 to
become a full time career/life coach, writer, and solo web designer, I have
worked with over 100 businesses of all sizes, from major corporations to solo
professionals and non-profit associations. I have also served as technical
advisor and web copywriter to dozens of other small businesses, entrepreneurs,
and professional associations world-wide.
